Footy mad kids from Worksop were treated to a special training ground experience thanks to Doncaster Rovers, and met a pop star as an added bonus.

Worksop Town Under 9s were invited to Rovers’ training complex, where they met the Championship club’s first team and One Direction star Louis Tomlinson.

The pop singer was training with the squad ahead of his Rovers debut in the Final Third Development League against Rotherham United on 26th February.

Tomlinson was only too happy to pose for pictures with the Young Tigers, while Rovers keeper Ross Turnbull handed over a pair of signed gloves to Worksop stopper James Bradley.

The training ground experience came as a result of Worksop Town Under 9s topping Doncaster Rovers’ Group Experience Ticket leaderboard last season.

They kicked off the morning with an action packed training session with the Rovers Foundation coaches, before taking time out to watch the first team training session in action.

The boys then sat down in the canteen used by the first team, to a lunch made by the Rovers chefs.

The highlight of the day was a meet and greet session with the professional footballers.

Andy Parnell, the Worksop manager, said the trip was even better than they’d expected.

“We would like to pass on our thanks to everyone involved in our visit today, including the players and staff, the boys had an absolutely fantastic time and the experience far exceeded any of our expectations.”

A spokesman for Doncaster Rovers heaped praise on the boys for their skills and conduct.

“Not only did you impress our coaches during the training session but you represented your club extremely well throughout the day.”

“A thank you also to the managers who helped organise the visit and to the parents who came along to support the boys. “
