Worksop Town's title hopes suffer another blow, with dropped points at 10-man Brigg

Matt Booth’s late goal rescued a point and a 2-2 draw, having found themselves 2-1 down to their 10-men hosts.

It was a nightmare start for Tigers, as the referee gave a penalty, penalising Lawrence Gorman for what looked like a nothing challenge on Nathan Smith.

Paul Grimes stepped up and buried the penalty into the bottom corner.

Neither side was giving up any space early on, Elliot Broughton headed tamely at Jon Kennedy for the hosts, and Steve Woolley saw a shot deflected wide.

It had been a first half of few chances and lacking quality, but a good opportunity did fall to Tigers.

A ball flicked over the top released Woolley one on one, but Jody Barford stood tall in the Brigg goal to save.

The referee was starting to lose control of the game just before half time, letting a few challenges go before Julian Lawrence was late in on a Brigg player. Lewis Dennison reacted by seemingly striking Lawrence in the back of the head.

Both sets of players came together, resulting in four yellow cards, but to the amazement of everyone in the ground there were no reds shown.

Tigers grabbed an equaliser shortly after the restart.

Some good work from Woolley released Adam Ward who crossed for Andy Ofosu to just about head home to pull the visitors level.

Kennedy produced a fantastic save from a long range Brigg effort, before the game rather unsurprisingly saw a red card, and it went to the home side. Dennison got a second yellow card for a late challenge on Mitch Husbands.

Tigers were pressing to take the lead, but a defensive mistake from Gorman let Brigg go ahead.

He passed the ball straight to Grimes, who turned brilliantly before curling a great finish beyond Kennedy from 20 yards.

Ward has a gilt edged chance to equalise straight away, missing twice when in on the keeper.

Tigers couldn’t make the most of a goalmouth scramble that eventually ended with Lawrence going for a bicycle kick that went wide of the post.

The pressure did count in the end, with Worksop finally levelling.

Patient build up play resulted in Booth turning his man and firing home into the bottom corner.

There was still time for another couple of Tigers chance, as they almost stole an unlikely three points.

Both fell to substitute Kyle Jordan, a Booth flick on saw an overhead kick fly just wide before the league’s leading goalscorer fired narrowly off target from range.

But it was to no avail as the game finished level and Mark Shaw’s men headed back to Sandy Lane with just a point.
