Worksop Town's '˜pay what you want' derby game raises over £800 for bereavement room

Fans could gain entry to the derby game against Retford with a minimum payment of £1.

And once inside, they were encouraged to give towards the fundraising efforts for a bereavement room at Bassetlaw Hospital.

Tigers chairman Kev Keep was delighted to see 730 inside the ground, and the £865 they raised for charity.

He said: “I would like to thank the people of Worksop And Retford for turning out for last night’s derby battle.

“Everyone should be proud of themselves, as over £800 went into the buckets.

“Even players donated as they came through the gate, and this is why this club is very special.

“We know the importance of this collection, and wish them well – we hope they raise enough to help build the private room for parents at Bassetlaw Hospital.

A local couple are leading the fundraising efforts.

Keith and Emma Hampson, who lost their baby daughter last year, have been gathering money to provide the bereavement room.

“Thanks to everyone who supported us, special thanks to Worksop Town Football Club,” said Keith.
