Health and safety concerns over the flooring meant Saturday’s scheduled match between Tigers and Handsworth Parramore was postponed by the NCEL.

It ruled no further league matches would be played at the ground until the matter had been resolved and were given assurances it would be this week.

A club spokesman confirmed the repair work had begun with help from leaseholders P&M Leisure, owned by Parramore chairman Pete Whitehead.

The Worksop Town spokesman said: “Work has started on the changing room repairs.

“The facts are that the club had a quote for these a month or so ago, but not enough funds to have it done. An appeal for help with the work was put out to the fan base, but none was forthcoming.

“It was understood that we had 28 days from the inspection date, but this was understandably overruled by the league on safety and insurance grounds.

“P&M have worked with the club to organise the repairs, and will be paying any costs over and above the original quote. P&M and Peter Whitehead are working closely with the club to enable it to stay at Sandy Lane.”

And added: “Club finances are extremely tight, and we are focusing on getting to the finish of this season. Obviously we are also aware of the need for planning for the future, but this will be done in an organised and considered manner.”

Worksop are next scheduled to play at Sandy Lane on 25th February against Harrogate Railway Athletic but there could be a match before then with Parramore scheduled to be at home to Thackley this coming Saturday.
