Worksop Town well beaten at Selby by clinical Tadcaster Albion

The Brewers simply soaked up pressure all afternoon, and broke with pace through the dangerous Adam Baker, finishing off the chances they made.

Tigers made a bright start, Tom Elliott finding Steve Woolley in the box, the midfielder twisting and turning to get a shot away, the ball fizzing past the post.

It was an even start, Tadcaster finding down the space through Baker, Elliott looking dangerous for the visitors.

Some slick football, despite the difficult surface, presented James Cottingham with a decent chance, but with time and space at the back post he blasted wide.

Worksop were punished instantly, Tadcaster breaking through Baker who got to the box and fired across Jon Kennedy and into the net.

The Tadcaster bench were celebrating again when Baker shot goalwards after a corner wasn’t dealt with, but the ball nestled in the side netting.

Roared on by a sizeable and vocal away support who didn’t stop singing all afternoon, Worksop kept pressing, smart passing around the edge of the box allowing Elliott to shoot, high and wide.

Cottingham then found Booth and the striker almost deceived keeper Gary Stevens with a low effort that was just held.

The men in white and black got the goal they were threatening when Alex Nightingale burst onto a through ball and found Elliott, all alone, the youngster sliding the ball through the keeper’s legs.

With conditions worsening it became an even tougher test, one long ball from the hosts in particular showing just how strong the wind was, as it curled from the right side all the way to the middle of the pitch where Jonathan Greening pounced but shot straight at Kennedy.

A half-time blizzard had blown over by the time the two teams emerged, and it was Worksop who started well again, patient play ending in a Gorman cross that was flicked just past the far post by Booth.

Despite all of Worksop’s possession in dangerous areas, it was Tadcaster who got an important second goal, Baker crossing from the right for Jimmy Beadle who arrived on the edge of the box to provide a classy finish.

Tigers were sticking to the plan of passing the ball and looking to unlock the Tadcaster defence, but when Cottingham injected some pace he managed to get to the byline and Stevens saved at is near post.

Tadcaster were clinical however, and put distance between themselves and the visitors when Baker, so dangerous all afternoon, crossed and Josh Greening evaded three diving bodies to shoot home past Kennedy.

The Worksop energy levels dropped, understandably on a heavy pitch, so Mark Shaw sent on Kyle Jordan, Mitch Husbands and Conor Higginson in the final 20 minutes.

But again, it was Tadcaster who showed how to take chances, Josh Greening running onto a forward ball and slotting past Kennedy to put the exclamation mark on it.

There was a brief flashpoint as Higginson tried to get the ball off Jonathan Greening, and as the referee separated them the Tadcaster man appeared to shrug the official off, with no card shown.

The referee blew time to signal Albion’s third win of the season over Tigers, but it didn’t dampen the spirits of the visiting support who made it sound like a home game even after the players had left the field.
