Shaw held a lengthy post-game inquest however, and wasn’t overly pleased with the performance, especially before the interval.

“I thought we were horrendous in the first half. I was so frustrated. The game had no tempo,” he said.

“The opposition provided very little in the first half and we showed no cohesion, a lack of desire.

“Playing at home, in front of over 400 people, on a good flat pitch against a team who don’t want to put you under pressure - why is your quality poor, why is your workrate poor?

“I was really disappointed.”

The manager questioned why his side could pass the ball so brilliantly for the opener, but struggle to replicate that for most of the rest of the afternoon.

“The first goal was terrific. Eight passes, I think six of them one touch, you can’t defend that, the top teams wouldn’t be able to defend that – it was a fantastic, well worked goal.

“It happened once in the first half.

“The other goals, well done Boothy, he’s sniffed around the six yard box like I’ve asked him to and picked up loose change.

“But there are some people out there who have got to have a look at themselves tonight, asking themselves if they’ve done enough, have they worked hard, do they deserve any plaudits?”
