Tigers carried on their impressive goal scoring form as they saw off a game Thackley side 5-1 to earn a first home win of the season.
After a slow start to game, the first real chance if the match came for Tigers on 14 minutes, after some good work from Conor Sellars the keeper scrambled the ball wide. Another couple of chances fell to Sellars and Ross Henshaw who both miss hit shots straight at the keeper when well placed.
Some sustained pressure from the home team did provide a deserved opener, as a set piece routine saw Henshaw bury a header into the bottom corner on 17 mins. Tigers were starting to dominate, and earned a second goal on 22 mins. Another set piece caused chaos in the box, with the ball bouncing off the cross bar and Jordan Cooke there to apply the headered finish from close range.
The goals kept on coming, after good hold up play from Mitch Husbands, Sellars whipped a left footed cross in from the right and there was Kyle Jordan to nod home on 27 mins.
Jordan then fizzed a left for shot wide, before a fantastic reverese pass released Husbands who shot wide. However, against the run of play Thackley pulled a goal back on the counter attack on 31 mins. Tom Dugdale applying the finish after a nice move which just saw Tigers caught with too many men forward.
A three goal advantage was restore shortly after, as Cooke again headed home on 34 mins following poor Thackley defending. The visitors were struggling to cope with the movement of Tigers, with Craig Bentham seeing a caution for going in late on Sellars.
Leading up to half time Husbands released Jordan, who held off his defender but couldn’t quite get enough on his shot which was easily saved by Ed Hall.
Tigers continued in the second half as they ended the first, grabbing another goal on 47 mins. Henshaw skipped past a Thackley player before playing fantastic through ball to Husbands who buried the finish passed Hall and into the back of the net.
Some good play from Jack Waddle saw Sellars go down in the box before Husbands follow up shot was cleared of the line. From the resulting corner Cooke headed wide when looking for his hat trick.
Dugdale had a few chances for the visitors to pull a goal back, but was twice denied well by Jon Kennedy in the Worksop goal, who made a few good saves in the last quarter of the game. Then Mike Garrod shot wide when he probably should have done better.
The second half didn’t quite match the intensity of the first, but Tigers thoroughly deserved their win.
