It comes nine years after he earned a move to the Football League from the Tigers.

Tomlinson came through the club’s U19 side and went on to score 46 times in just over 100 games for Worksop before he was merited with a move to then-League Two side Macclesfield Town in 2011, following a 29-goal season in the Northern Premier League.

The 31-year-old believes that now is the right time to be re-joining his maiden club.

“I feel like I am joining at a good time; the ambition of the club is quite high, and I think it is a good time to come back,” said Tomlinson.

“I feel like the club is definitely going in the right direction again.

“The more chances we create, the more opportunities it gives me to get my name on the scoresheet, so hopefully I will have a positive impact on the goal tally.

“I haven’t just come here to make the numbers up, I still have some life left in me at 31 and I want to play every game, so it does make it competitive.

“I have played for a variety of different clubs and played under different managers, so I would like to think I could also help everyone a little bit and pass on some knowledge that I have learnt over my career to some of the younger ones.”

Tomlinson will have to wait until at least December to make his second debut for the Tigers due to the second national lockdown.

The forward believes that no matter how much exercise you do, nothing will recreate the proper match fitness gained from playing league games.

He continued: “This is something that I have spoken to the gaffer about; it is difficult because nothing really creates a game scenario, so you can stay as fit as you would like, but being match fit is a completely different thing.

“A month is a long time to have off, so you will obviously lose some match fitness.

“I hadn’t really played for a month prior to joining Frickley, where I played five games or so, and I was getting fitter each game.

“It is a bit frustrating, but it is what it is, and you can do your little bits and bobs, but actual match fitness will come from playing games.”
