Earlier this month, the world’s fourth oldest football team announced it was facing potential closure due to outstanding debts.

Peter Whitehead – who owns the lease to Sandy Lane football ground where Worksop play their home games – has promised to step in and take over as chairman, if the money can be raised to satisfy creditors by the end of the month.

Ahead of their match against Sutton Coldfield Town on Saturday, The Tigers announced £23,707.81 – more than two thirds of their target – had been raised so far.

On Wednesday, eight-year-old Oliver Banyard – Peter’s grandson – cycled 80 laps of Sandy Lane to raise much-needed funds for the cash-strapped club.

People can donate via a Just Giving page or through the Chairman’s fund.
