Worksop Town manager Duncan Milligan promises changes in the summer

Milligan, who promised changes at the club who are 17th, said: “It was done for a couple of reasons. I felt the supporters deserved to see that and see that we don’t just go in and forget about things.

They were still cheering so I thought why not because the changing rooms on a day like this are like an oven. A few home truths were said on both parts — the players had their say too.

They know their performances haven’t been good enough but the run we’ve been on hasn’t helped their confidence of course.”

The Tigers, who ended a 12-game winless run the previous Monday, took the lead just before half-time of the Northern Counties East league Premier Division match when Charlie Baird turned and scored well.

But they conceded two sloppy goals before a well-taken third for the hosts made it a miserable end to a poor season for the Tigers. Daniel Flynn levelled in the 54th minute before Brandon Bagley (69 mins) and Martin Brissett (87 mins) secured the victory for the home side.

Now Milligan is planning ahead, saying he would be picking up the phone to bring in new faces during the close-season.

“A lot of these lads have had the opportunity. It’s something I’d have loved at their age and I’d have ridden a bike to get there — we need lads like that.

“I’m pleased that my targets are picking up player of the year awards etc at their respective clubs.

“The players here that have had the shirts and their opportunity I’m sure will want to come back, but we will have to take stock as it’s not been good enough. “Some of these young players will stay around but they’ve got to be integrated properly other than having to rely on them like we have this season.

“I’m looking forward to implementing what we want to from the start, something we’ve not been able to through circumstances.”

Talking about the defeat, the manager added: “It had that end of season feel and the sun was shining.

“I said at half-time that the lads had three more levels to go up to and you heard a few complaints, but it was the same for both teams.

“Although we won on Monday, some of the lads are still in that trend of the losing run and you could just see as soon as we conceded they were zapped —that’s where you need your older lads.”
