Worksop Town ladies on the hunt for a new boss

The ‘Tigeresses’ have been managed by the club’s first team supremo Mark Shaw in their inaugural campaign.

But he has stepped back from that role in order to concentrate on the first team, and the club has advertised for a replacement.

Shaw is delighted that the women finished the season on such a high.

“They need a bit of praise because they won their final league game of the season, their first outing at Sandy Lane, which was quite big for them in my opinion,” he said.

“The return of the club’s Under 19s and the set up of the ladies team have been big positives for the club this season.

“And the woman have finished their season on a high, winning their last four games, scoring heavily, which has been very pleasing.”

Shaw explained that he and assistant manager Chris Adams would be leaving their roles as managers of the ladies and Under 19 sides respectively.

“I’m stepping back from that role,” he said.

“The plan was to create and build a women’s team, in a way to create equality at the club, to get a structure in place, manage them for a season.

“But as manager of both teams I maybe spread myself a bit thin and I want to focus a bit more on the first team, and it’s the same with Chris in terms of the Under 19s.”

Adams will still be involved in the coaching of the Worksop Town academy teams, but the club want to recruit coaching staff for their other sides, along with a number of scouts and physios.

“We’re looking at how we create a conveyor belt system, to progress talent through to the first team or to progress on to professional clubs over the next two to 10 years,” he said.

“That’s the process.

“At the same time we’re looking at how we compete against the big guns financially in our first team’s division.”

Off the field, the club have appointed a commercial manager.

Local businesswoman Rachel Wood has already begun to attract new sponsors, and wants to assist the fundraising efforts aimed at securing the Sandy Lane lease, or a brand new ground for the world’s fourth oldest club.

“I very much look forward to the role and am honoured to be a new part of such a wonderful club,” she said.

“Helping (Worksop Town) get ownership back is my number one priority and I will work as hard as I can in order to achieve this.”
