Worksop Town has reached its £30,000 fundraising target to save the club.

The Tigers confirmed it had raised and surpassed the required amount to pay off the club’s existing debts.

It is expected that Pete Whitehead, lease owner of Tigers’ home ground on Sandy Lane, will become chairman of the world’s fourth oldest football club.

The appeal has received widespread attention from the football community and beyond with high-profile figures such as Jeff Stelling, Peter Crouch and ex-Tiger Chris Waddle all contributing to the cause, as well as fans of a club in Norway who also have a Tiger in their crest.

Whitehead’s own grandson completed a sponsored cycle ride and there was a Legends Night at the clubhouse on Sandy Lane hosted by Lance Hardy.
