Mark Shaw’s men were 2-1 up in the sixth minute of injury time at the end of the game, but a late, late leveller was followed by a goalless extra-time period and a 4-1 penalty shootout defeat.

Tigers began the cup replay without a trio of the players who started Saturday’s game, which also finished 2-2, Jordan Hodder, Mitch Husbands and Adam Scott all missing.

In came Mike Fereday, Scott Wesley and Adam Somes.

Worksop got off to the perfect start, the in-form Steve Woolley finding the net in just the second minute.

But six minutes later Adam Gilchrist made it 1-1 in a pulsating start at Brocstedes Park.

There was a glorious chance for Kieran Fenton to give Worksop the lead once more, but he missed the ball altogether just two yards.

Before the break, Kyle Jordan put a shot wide of the post and the two sides went off all square.

They were only on the pitch for three minutes when Tigers retook the lead, Somes with the goal.

Ashton piled on the pressure late on, forcing two goal-line blocks and hitting the crossbar in the 89th minute.

Worksop held firm until the 96th minute when Danny Regan rescued the hosts and forced the game into extra-time.

The visitors had a golden chance to win it when Alex Nightingale went through on goal and rounded the keeper Martin Pearson, only to pass to Mark Fereday who was in an offside position.

In the ensuing penalty shootout, Pearson was the star.

He first saved Woolley’s effort and then one from Fenton, with none of Ashton’s first four takers missing the mark, sending Worksop out of the FA Cup.

Tigers are back in action next Wednesday night at home to Garforth Town.
