Worksop Town have eased their defensive crisis with the signing of a centre half from their Bassetlaw rivals Retford United.
Julian Lawrence has made the switch, and could play for Tigers tonight when they take on Parkgate at Sandy Lane.
Mark Shaw was delighted to get a new face into the squad, after seeing his defensive corp decimated in recent weeks.
The departures of Tom Burgin and Jono Wafula and a long term injury to Sam Liversidge, along with the possible unavailability of Jamie Hadfield necessitated a move for another defender.
Shaw said: “Sam is out for five months, we lost Burgs just before the season and Jamie might miss midweek games with his new job at Sheffield Wednesday,” he said.
“The Staveley result made us realise how much we were lacking at centre half and had to move quite quickly to see who was available.
“We fought off a club from a higher division to get Julian’s signature.”
Lawrence, 22, has featured for Goole, Hallam and started the season with Worksop’s fellow Sandy Lane outfit Handsworth Parramore before a move to Retford.
Shaw said: “He was at Retford and scored for them on Saturday.
“We played against him last year and I’ve been impressed with him for a couple of seasons.
“He can play right or left centre-half, he’s strong and quick, a good player.
“We didn’t expect him to be available this season.”
Tigers hope the player’s registration will be complete in time for kick-off at 7.45pm.
