It is that time of the year where non-league sides begin to reveal their new signings and squad retention lists for the forthcoming campaign.

In Worksop’s league, the Northern Premier League South East Division, Ilkeston Town have been the most prolific team in terms of getting their business done early with a string of new additions each day.

Belper Town were also one of the first sides to announce a full retainment list, as well as four new signings with Rhodes and McDonnell being half of them.

Steven McDonnell previously joined the Nailers from Worksop at the start of the 2019/20 season but was brought back to Sandy Lane by then-manager Kyle Jordan and he went on to score on seven occasions in his 25 starts.

“I’m excited and I can’t wait to get started to be honest,” said McDonnell. “It’s a massive club and hopefully I can play a big part next season.

“Last season, I thought we [Worksop Town] were hit and miss, but it was understandable considering the amount of injuries we had and all the off-field shenanigans that were going on.

“We had some great results and performances against some top teams.

“On a personal level, I was happy with how I performed, and I always gave everything for Worksop.

“I wish Worksop fans all the success that they deserve – they have always been brilliant with me.”

Rhodes was one of Worksop’s most consistent performers last season and proved to be a useful asset due to his versatility.

The defender made 33 appearances for the Tigers and is looking forward to getting started with the Derbyshire outfit.

Rhodes said: “They [Belper] had a great season last year and a great run in the FA Cup, so to be essentially picked out by the management team as someone who can hopefully push them a little further and give that extra bit of depth, it’s a pleasure.

“It’s been a good and progressive season for me as a player on reflection. I was playing in a brilliant team and met followers of the club that will no doubt be friends for life.”
