The Tigers went down after an action-filled 10 minutes just before half-time, when all the goals were scored as Worksop quickly levelled but then surrendered the lead again.

“The substitutes made a fairly decent impact when they came on in the second half,” Jordan reflected.

“We were much better (then), but it was still not good enough at all. It was a nightmare spell in the 10 minutes before half-time which really cost us the game. It was really poor defending.”

Matt Sykes fired over at the start of the second period as the Tigers looked to find a way back. Steven McDonnell then had penalty claims waved away.

Both players had gone close in the first half with the score goalless.

Then Marc Newsham opened the scoring in the 34th minute, getting on the right side of Deegan Atherton to slot his shot past keeper Dave Reay.

Worksop quickly levelled 60 seconds later when James Gregory lobbed the stranded keeper to score against his former.

But within three minutes Sheldon Jordan headed in a Cody Prior free-kick and Mitchell Dunne made it 3-1 a minute before half-time.

Midway through the second period Reay denied Newsham a second for the visitors.

Reay then starred in the closing stages with a series of terrific stops to keep his side in with a chance of snatching an unlikely point.

In the 87th minute he turned Nyamsi-Hendji’s volley over, having made great saves to deny Dunne and, a few minutes earlier, Dunne and Newsham with a double stop.

Jordan added: “It is frustrating. I know we are asking a lot of the players with regards to wages and stuff like that, but you have to question whether they care enough – whether getting beaten hurts them enough.

“We started poorly. The last two weeks, had it not been for Dave Reay in goal it could have been five or six twice. It is unacceptable.

“It took us being 3-1 down for the players to try to make this happen. It shouldn’t be like that.

“We were second best for the first half and I was surprised when we equalised.”
