Worksop Town boss happy with core of squad

The squad resumed training on 18th July ahead of what the Tigers boss expects to be a gruelling Northern Premier League season.

“We are happy with the core,” he said. We’d still like to bring in one or two though to make sure we are completely strengthened going into this campaign, which is going to be midweek/Saturday/midweek.

“We have got to carry an over-sized squad rather than an under-sized one, so I'd like to do a bit more business, but not too much as I am happy where we are at the minute. It is now about getting everyone up to speed.

“I am happy at the minute with the players there. We have been really impressed with a couple of the youngsters we have inherited. It has given us a good little problem.

“We are just building on core fitness and ensuring the lads are in shape and lean and ready to play football at a fast pace.

“Once the games come it is about putting it together and making sure everyone gets game time.

“We need the players to get used to the system and how we want to play games. Make the mistakes now so we are a well oiled machine and ready to go when the season starts.”

Worksop will confirm their full pre-season schedule in the coming days ahead of what they hope will be a season of pushing for promotion.

“Worksop should be operating higher, there is no doubt and that is what attracted us (Parry and assistant Craig Rouse) to the job,” he said.

“The main thing at the minute is getting all the foundations in place to allow the club to play higher.

“It is not an overnight thing, we have to put a lot of foundations in place, but hopefully once they are we can get a side on the pitch that is competitive and can challenge.

“We wanted to bring the youngsters and the first team closer together and we have had a lot of the U19’s and U21’s training with the first team.

“There will be a clear pathway into the side. At our previous job we constantly tried to bring local lads in and make them better and get some rough gems in there, we will do the same at Worksop.”

The new Tigers gaffer is also keen to hear the fans roar - and knows full well the affect it can have on the opposition at Sandy Lane.

“One of the main reasons we are here is the size of the club and the fanbase,” he added.

“I have been impressed by the fans every time we have managed against Worksop as an opposition manager.

“It was a loud and hostile crowd. It is a proper football club and we hope the fans come down and back us

“We are all as one as a club. It doesn’t matter if you are a player, a fan or the secretary we are all aiming for the same goal.

“It would be great having the fans down and getting behind us.”
