Worksop Town boss Craig Parry delighted with Guiseley stalemate

Despite the two-step gap between the two sides, Worksop enjoyed a dominant first half against the Lions, who fielded seven trialists in their starting 11. Guiseley brought on several first-team players for the final 30-minutes of the game, which brought a change in momentum, but the Tigers showed resolute defending, allowing them to claim their first clean sheet of pre-season.

It was a perfect display after a poor showing in their last friendly against Maltby Main – a 1-0 defeat at Muglet Lane.

Parry praised Worksop’s overall performance, stating that everything seemed to fall into place for his side.

“I think the lads have set the bar high,” said Parry. “It does seem like we have had a little bit of everything in every single game but apart from not scoring tonight, I think we have brought every single little component together against a very good Conference North side that was competitive and I believe we have held our own.

“I think, not just with us winning the ball and creating chances, the lads have defended well too. I thought they did the ugly side of the game very well, which then allowed us to do the ugly things.

“They know that things weren’t 100 per cent right on Saturday; we didn’t perform right, but what I do know is that they have stuck together – regardless of the result, we competed and fought together.”

Worksop next face their former Northern Counties East League title rivals Penistone Church at Sandy Lane on Saturday afternoon.

Parry continued: “We will probably look to rotate a little bit for Saturday.

“We still have got, and I have mentioned it to a couple of fans who have collared me over by the dugouts, a few games to put in the building blocks in place so that we can perform like this every game, for 90-minutes, every single week. We now have to go onto the next game and utilise the squad to make sure everyone is well-drilled ready for our final friendly against Hemsworth on Tuesday night.”
