Worksop Town beaten in FA Trophy

MANSFIELD Town proved to be too strong for Worksop Town, in the first round proper of the FA Trophy tonight at Ilkeston.

Martin McIntosh’s men tasted defeat for the first time in 11 games, in front of a crowd of 682 at the New Manor Ground, losing 5-0.

A first half penalty from Kiegan Parker and a classy strike from Louis Briscoe made it 2-0 to the visitors at half-time.

After the break Stags increased their lead through substitute Rob Duffy, and a simple finish from a corner by Simon Grand made it 4-0.

A Luke Medley spot-kick on 90 minutes completed the rout.

Tigers did have their chances, most notably in a decent first half spell. Matty Young’s blast was cleared off the line, Luke Shiels received the ball in the box twice in quick succession but was unable to hit the target, and Jamie Jackson just failed to connect with Danny Bacon’s dangerous cross.

Stags will face Newport County in the second round in January.
