Worksop pipped by Blades in homecoming

WORKSOP Town made their long awaited return to the town last night, with a narrow defeat by League One side Sheffield United.

A crowd of over 1,300 packed into Sandy Lane to see the Blades take a 1-0 win, thanks to a Corey Gregory volley in the first half.

Tigers struggled to get onto the ball at times as their professional visitors retained possession, but boss Martin McIntosh was delighted with his side’s workrate.

“I’m really pleased, it was a good run out for us and we looked solid,” he told the Guardian.

The Worksop side was full of new faces, with early summer signings Marc Roberts, Danny Davidson and Adam Muller joined by newest recruits Ben Turner and Josh Davies.

Former Leeds United defender Callum Williams and ex-Mansfield and Accrington striker Rory Boulding came off the bench for Tigers, as McIntosh looks to finalise his squad for the 2011/12 season.
