Worksop boss praises Parkgate but concedes Tigers' victory '˜could have been a massacre'

Mark Shaw said his side could have enjoyed an even greater margin of victory than the 4-0 scoreline in Saturday's win over Parkgate.

The Worksop Town manager spoke positively about the hosts, but was glowing about his own players’ performance.

“I think they’ve had a good go at us today, they’ve tried to stop us playing football,” he said.

“They played a different formation to usual, they’re on a high after beating Garforth and I’ve got to give them credit for having a go at us.”

Shaw was pleased to see the visitors’ creating so many chances after a slow start.

“From our point of view it took a little while to get into our stride, but we created lots of chances.

“I know they hit the post but how many one on ones did we create? It could have been a massacre.”

“It was a good game from both teams, we’ve scored four goals but had plenty of chances.”

Tigers sit top of the NCEL Premier, level on 50 points with Bridlington who have played three games more.

Shaw said the support his side received on Saturday, as they wracked up a second consecutive 4-0 win, was another boost.

“We had a little blip, but we were still second and other teams are dropping points as well,” he said.

“The crowd were superb in the second half and really got behind us, it’s what we need with a young team, it was fantastic.

“We need to take that and build confidence to go on another run like we did earlier in the season.”

Despite having won four games in a row by a 4-0 scoreline earlier in the campaign, Shaw isn’t out to replicate that sequence of results.

He’ll accept any scoreline, so long as it brings three points for the world’s fourth oldest club.

“As I always say the win is the most important thing, and if like today it comes with entertaining football that’s a bonus.

“But three points is what matters most.”
