‘Willo’ leaves Blues on good terms

RYAN Williams has left Gainsborough Trinity but says he will always hold the club in the highest regard.

The 34-year-old confirmed his departure on Tuesday, and quickly agreed a move to North Ferriby United in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.

Speaking to the Standard the popular midfielder said he would treasure his memories of the Northolme.

“I will never say a bad word about that football club,” he said.

“There was no bust up, we’ve ended on really good terms and I still class Housh (Steve Housham) and the chairman (Peter Swann) as friends.”

Football is football, people move on, but I enjoyed everything about my time at the club, I loved it.”

Williams wanted to move in order to get regular football, and when North Ferriby United made clear their interest the former Mansfield Town man came to an agreement with Trinity to end his contract.

“Looking at the signings they’ve made, they mean business and I’m not going there for a comfy ride, I want to go and try to win things.”

“I have quite a few friends there like Ryan Kendall and Nathan Peat and I know the manager Billy Heath quite well, my daughter is friends with his. Those are all positives, but mostly I just want to go and win.”

Trinity chairman Peter Swann paid tribute to Williams for his efforts in the blue shirt, and for the manner of his departure.

“He has been a true professional while at the club and I have been proud of what he has done since he signed for us.”

“He had a lot to do with us maintaining our position in the BSN and has a great relationship with Steve.”

“To his credit, Ryan has decided to tear up his contract and move on, which I feel shows a huge respect for Trinity and the management and the fans.”
