WEMBLEY’S JUST THREE WINS AWAY

Gainsborough Trinity head into Saturday’s FA Trophy game against Tamworth just three wins away from a trip to Wembley Stadium.

Their third round clash at The Northolme, against Blue Square Premier Tamworth, is for a place in the quarter finals and right-back Dominic Roma said the whole squad is looking forward to the tie.

He told the Standard: “I’m looking forward to it. We were only 90 minutes away from playing against them in the same league this season, so it should be a good game and one we are excited about.”

Opponents Tamworth currently sit one division above Trinity in the football pyramid, where they are struggling in 18th place in the Blue Square Premier; although they do boast one of the division’s top scorers in striker Adam Cunnington.

They reached this stage by defeating Lincoln City and Corby Town.

Trinity have got this far by beating fellow Blue Square North sides Hinckley United and Harrogate Town, before defeating Blue Square Premier high-fliers Forest Green Rovers away from home in the last round – perhaps the result of this year’s whole competition so far.

“The mood in the dressing room is good, there is a lot of banter flying around and everyone is in good spirits,” said Roma.

“We just need to take what we did at Forest Green, and against Halifax here last week, into the game against Tamworth,” said Roma, who scored his first goal of the season in Saturday’s draw with Solihull.

Trinity have a couple of injury concerns over the likes of Mark Wilson and Jonathan D’Laryea going into the game, but they could be boosted by the return of Shane Clarke to the midfield.

Roma insists that the injuries won’t affect the team too badly, thanks to a squad with some depth.

“In training everybody is fighting for positions,” he said. “So we all need to keep doing what we are doing and hopefully we can keep our shirts.”

Pressed into predicting what he thinks might happen on Saturday, the full-back added: “Anything can happen on the day. If we play like we did against Halifax and Forest Green, I don’t see a reason why we can’t win it on the day.”
