Weather claims Tigers game, threatens weekend at Witton

WORKSOP Town’s league clash with Rushall Olympic has been postponed due to a frozen pitch, and their trip to Witton Albion on Saturday could face the same fate.

The recent cold snap left three inches of snow on the Sandy Lane pitch, forcing the cancellation of tonight’s game.

It would have been a chance for Tigers to break their three-game losing streak in the Evo-Stik Premier, but instead they will turn their focus to Saturday’s tough away day at Witton.

If the Albion game beats the weather, which seems unlikely given the snow and freezing temperatures forecast, it will see the fourth placed team host the fifth placed team in the league.

Albion have become draw specialists in 2013, sharing the spoils in three of their four outings thus far.

Held to 2-2 draws at home by both Nantwich Town and Ilkeston Town, they then ousted AFC Fylde from the Doodson Sport League Cup, before a thrilling 3-3 game at Bracken Moor against Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Their last defeat came on 8th December when Buxton got the better of them at home.

Shaun Tuck, who has 12 goals in the league for Witton this season, picked up a slight knock in last weekend’s game at Stocksbridge and striker Steve Foster is suspended for Saturday, after the weather claimed his club’s midweek cup fixture at Runcorn.

When the two sides met on 25th September at Sandy Lane Steve Towers’ goal gave Tigers a point, in front of a crowd of 253.

Albion have failed to beat Worksop in their last four attempts.

On Saturday they’re hoping to entice a bumper crowd with a ‘Families for a Fiver’ deal – giving entry to two adults and as many Under 15s as they like for £5.
