Two new faces appeared in the Worksop Town dugout on Wednesday, as Phoenix were beaten 13-0, but both of them were familiar to Tigers fans.
One was ‘Manager for a Day’ Nicky Hulme, a lifetime supporter who won the chance to manage the club through an auction.
The other was former Tigers boss Tommy Spencer, the man who sat in the Sandy Lane dugout 20 years ago when they beat British Gas 12-0.
Spencer and Hulme both addressed the players before kick-off, and the the latter, it was a dream come true to lead out the team he has supported since he was a young boy.
He told the Guardian: “It was fantastic, one of the best nights I’ve had in my life.”
“To have got a club record as well was great.”
“The lads were brilliant, truly professional, Tommy was brilliant, I think he enjoyed it as well.”
“We had a team talk, Tommy said his piece, I said my piece, Lakey is in there every week so he knows things we don’t – we all said our piece.”
“It’s definitely something to cherish.”
