Up and down month for the Parras

WORKSOP Parramore’s up and down September form continued this week, with a victory followed by a narrow defeat.

The Parras visited Barton Town Old Boys on Saturday and triumphed 2-1, before hosting Tadcaster Albion on Tuesday night at Sandy Lane and losing out by the same scoreline.

On Saturday they were back at their best, passing, moving and creating chances.

An early goal from Lee Thompson was enough to give Parramore a half-time lead, Thompson capping off a decent move to finish into the bottom corner from 15 yards.

The second half was tougher, Barton being physical and Parramore perhaps rushing play at times.

Barton did find the equaliser on 65 minutes through Richard Medcalf and also hit the post later on.

Worksop Parramore rallied back to grab the winner a few minutes later, after Lee Whittington tapped home the rebound off the post from an Adam Fretwell effort.

Lee Holmes could have buried Barton but his half volley from 30 yards rattled the bar, although it wasn’t needed in the end as the Parras returned to the top of the NCEL Premier table.

And they remained there, even after Tuesday’s 2-1 loss.

On Saturday they host Liversedge, before the visit of Retford United on Tuesday night (7.45pm).
