Unbeaten streak halted

DINNINGTON Town’s unbeaten streak came to an end on Saturday, when a plethora of missed chances cost them dearly at Hemsworth.

The hosts secured the three points with 2-1 win over the Phoenix Park men.

Hemsworth took the lead when Jack Wakefield headed in a cross from Lee Dawson early in the first half.

A Michael Trench free-kick was headed just wide by Matt Lepianka, and Town went close again with a shot from Martin Wade.

Liam Cartledge felt he should have had a penalty just before the break, but the referee was unimpressed as the Town striker went down under the challenge of the home keeper.

On 55 minutes however Dinnington hit back, Lepianka finding the net with a low shot.

Great work by Matt Smith allowed him to cross for Cartledge but his header was wide and a fine chance went begging.

Stand-in keeper Liam Smith saved Town from going behind, but put the ball out for a corner on 69 minutes and Dean Foley scored from the set-piece to make it 2-1.

Late in the match James Coulbeck sent in a lovely cross for Daniel Flynn but he fired just wide of the post and Dinnington were left disappointed and pointless at full-time.
