Two late goals hand Town an away loss

Dinnington Town returned from a weather enforced fortnight off on Saturday, but fell to their second defeat on the bounce.

Their trip to Eccleshill United ended in a 2-1 defeat, despite Steve Toyne’s men leading 1-0 with only minutes to go.

The Phoenix Park men took the lead on 53 minutes, Sam Read finding the net.

But back came the hosts, chiefly through Marcus Edwards.

He levelled the game on 75 minutes, and with just eight minutes left on the clock found a winner to send Dinnington home disappointed.

Town are scheduled to host Shaw Lane Aquaforce on Saturday in NCEL Division One action.

Shaw Lane are flying high in the league, in third place with title aspirations.

But they’ve been inconsistent of late, losing three of their last five games.

In their most recent outing, on 25th January, Aquaforce lost 3-2 at AFC Emley.

Looking further ahead, Town will make the short trip to local rivals Hallam on Tuesday night, for a 7.45pm kick-off.

Hallam are the side directly above Dinnington, and depending on Saturday’s results, Toyne could guide his team into 19th place with a win next week.

When the two struggling sides met earlier in the season, back in August, they cancelled each other out in a 0-0 draw.

While Hallam – aided by former Town man Jon Roper – have taken a point from each of their last two games, they’re winless since early December.
