Trinity duo move to the Iron, but skipper returns

The duo will play in League Two next season, after following former Blues owner Peter Swann to the Iron.

But in a huge boost for Trinity fans, club captain Michael Leary has agreed a return for the 2013/14 Blue Square North season.

Confirming the departure of flair player Hawkridge and central defender Waterfall, Trinity director John John Myskiw said: “Steve Housham, Pete Wallace and myself would like to thank and wish the two lads all the best for the future.”

“They have signed for an undisclosed fee.”

Hawkridge was the subject of interest from a number of clubs, after impressing in a variety of positions for Gainsborough – so much so that Sunderland had him watched by scouts on more than one occasion.

Waterfall meanwhile was a stalwart of Steve Housham’s side, making 51 appearances, scoring five times.

Myskiw said the club were delighted to retain the services of Leary, who played in midfield on the Northolme last season.

“Another part of the jigsaw complete and we are delighted to have him back on board,” added Myskiw.

Leary played 30 times for the Blues last season, his second on the Northolme, but struggled with injury towards the end of the campaign.

The futures of Leary’s fellow midfielder Shane Clarke, and young left-back Josh Wilde, are still undecided.

But forward Conal Platt will definitely not return to Gainsborough next season.

Myskiw added: “Conal has moved back towards Liverpool way and is not interested in travelling which is undertsandable.”

“Hopefully Wilde and Clarke will be resolved in one way or another over the next few weeks.”
