Tigers to welcome Blades

Worksop Town supporters will see their Tigers face sides from Sheffield United and Chesterfield at Sandy Lane this summer.

Worksop revealed their pre-season fixtures list this week which featured eight confirmed dates and the possibility of a ninth - at home to Burton Albion before the 2018/19 campaign gets underway.

The schedule begins on Thursday 12th July away to Shirebrook Town followed by a trip to Cleethorpes Town on Saturday 14th July and a trip to Harworth Colliery on Thursday 19th July.

Tigers return home for their first pre-season match at Sandy Lane on Saturday 21st July when a Sheffield United XI visit followed by welcoming Lincoln United on Wednesday 25th July.

A trip to Spalding United on Saturday 28th July follows that before a Chesterfield FC XI arrive in Worksop for a match against the Tigers on Tuesday 31st July.

August sees another away friendly at Swallownest on Thursday 2nd before the club has penciled in a home match against Burton Albion on Wednesday 8th, which is still to be confirmed.

Craig Denton, Tigers’ newly appointed manager, welcomed the fixtures and believes the programme will be a good test for his squad.

He said: “The club has done really well to get those fixtures penned in. For us to go to the likes of Cleethorpes away, home games against Sheffield United, will be great.

“We’ve got Spalding and Lincoln and they will show a lot of on how far we’ve come on in the pre-season friendlies, because they are the sides we need to be competing with.

“Everyone wants to win pre-season games but that’s not always the overall aim when you look at the bigger picture.

“We’ll be looking at players in different positions, what the club has already got and adding some new additions to see how it all blends together.”
