Striker Leon Mettam, who netted 23 times for the club, has agreed to take a pay cut to continue playing for Tigers and has been made club captain by manager Mark Shaw.

And his strike partner, 6ft 5ins targetman Tom Denton, has become the club’s second summer signing.

Denton, who notched 22 goals for Worksop last season, confirmed his return on his Twitter account this afternoon.

New manager Mark Shaw said Mettam was a key signing, and deemed Denton’s commitment to the club ‘fantastic news.’

He said: “For me we’ve signed one of the key players from last season.”

“Leon is coming back as club captain, for his leadership and experience.”

“And Tom committing is fantastic news. He’s a big signing to go along with Leon, and it proves we mean business next season.”

“I’ve known Tom for a while and always wanted to work with him, I can’t wait to have him in my side.”

“Leon and Tom’s goalscoring records at Worksop are fantastic and I hope they get off to a good start.”

Worksop Town have also offered terms for next season to winger Craig King and full-back Phil Roe.
