Tigers raring to go

Tigers host FC United of Manchester, knowing that a win could spark a run of form and take them into the play-offs, but defeat could be very costly.

Manager Simon Clark believes his men will need to win eight of their remaining 11 fixtures to guarantee a play-off spot.

And after watching them surrender a 3-1 lead to another promotion hopeful last Saturday at Witton, he challenged them to respond this weekend at Sandy Lane.

“I sat them down on Monday and reiterated how important it is to learn from Witton, and then I turned it over to them.”

“I wanted them to take a bit of ownership of the situation.”

“They said, as a group, they’ll give absolutely everything they’ve got, every single one of them, and then at the end of 90 minutes we’ll see where we are.”

“They are raring to go.”

While Clark is obviously entrenched in targets and potential points tallies, he’s keeping his men focused on the next game, then the next one, and so on.

“It’s just about the next 94 minutes,” he told the Guardian.

“We have lost too many games, and that’s my fault as the manager and I can’t change that now, it’s done – so all we can do is totally focus on FC United of Manchester.”

“It’s all about getting those magic three points.”

But the Worksop manager, nearing the end of his first full season in charge at Sandy Lane, acknowledges how tough a game Saturday’s clash could be.

“They’re a good team, they’ve got good wingers who are a threat, and good strikers, and a centre half who’s dangerous from set-plays,” he said.

“We need eight wins from 11, which is a big ask.”

“We need to go on a run.”
