Worksop Town’s new management team were delighted with the Tigers’ response to their appointment 48 hours earlier as bottom-of-the-table Clipstone were beaten 3-0.

Mitch Husbands, starting in attack, struck the first from six yards out in the ninth minute and two minutes later Charlie Baird slotted in a neat second.

Steve Woolley completed the scoring in the second half with a tap in after good work from substitute Will Sutton as the Tigers took the Northern Counties East League Premier Division points.

New manager Duncan Milligan said: “It has been a crazy couple of days and to be fair to the lads they have been chucked together today.

“We brought in a couple of new faces. To do that at any level is a struggle but I thought we put on a solid and professional performance.

“There will be bumps along the way in this next half a season until we get things structured and organised to how we want, but it was a pleasing start today.”

Man of the match Jack Holden came into the side and excelled along with winger James Milner,

Assistant manager John Buckley said: “I think the two were really good today.

“We could have fed James a lot more of the ball too. Maybe it’s being slightly old-fashioned, but I’d have just rammed the ball down his throat all day.”

Milligan said of Holden: “He’s a livewire. He gets better every time I watch him.

“He’s worked with us for three years day in day out now and he’s going to be some player.

“People sometimes overlook him because he’s a small lad but he’ll get stuck in and give you everything.

“They need trust and faith from everyone, I thought that was great from the older lads today having responded to them and quickly realised how good they are.”

Buckley was delighted with the response from the players after just 48 hours in the job,

“The lads worked hard today. I’m pleased with that.

“There were some really good performances, I still think we could be fitter and when you play the better teams in this league that will certainly be tested.”
