Tigers make Lake proud

Lake told the Guardian: “I thought we were tremendous.”

“On Saturday we deserved more out of the game, we started flagging after 60 minutes though.”

“Tonight I made a few changes, I want to keep everyone involved until the new manager comes in and get confidence back up.”

“None of the players let us down.”

A significant change was the reintroduction of left-back Ben Turner, and the local lad grew in confidence during the game.

Lake said: “I’ve been working with Ben and his confidence has been low.”

“He said to me he just wanted a chance to prove himself and I think tonight he was excellent.”

Another player coming in for praise was new boy Ash Burbeary, playing just his second game and scoring twice.

“I’ve known Ash since he was about 16, he wants to settle down now and at this club he can do that. On this pitch, with his quality he’s an asset to the club,” said the caretaker.

Lake now faces the task of getting Tigers ready for a trip to Marine on Saturday, while chairman Jason Clark attempts to bring in a new first team boss.

The one-time goalkeeping coach added:

“We’ve kept the dressing room together, we trust each other, I’ve asked them to do a few things and they’ve responded.”

“It’s not been easy picking the side and it will be difficult on Saturday, but hopefully I’ll make the right decision like I did tonight.”

Former stags boss David Holdsworth and footballer-turned-boxer Curtis Woodhouse were at Sandy Lane on Wednesday, fuelling rumours over the appointment of a new boss.

Clark is hoping to bring someone in by Saturday.
