Tigers caretaker boss Spink wants manager's job

Spink, speaking after his side fought back at Albion Sports to grab a last-gasp equaliser in a 1-1 draw, has been with the club since running out as a nine-year-old mascot.

“I have played for the under-21s and the reserves to then being in charge of the under-19s, assistant manager and now caretaker manager of the first team. So if I get the chance on a full time basis I would love it, and I would give it everything I’ve got because I’m a passionate lad and a Worksop lad through and through,” said Spink.

“Obviously I’d be over the moon to get the Worksop job.”

Spink, in his second match in charge, praised the character of his players as Charlie Baird ran through on goal to slot in his first goal for the Tigers and earn a Northern Counties East League Premier Division point.

Spink, who was only able to name three substitutes despite the return from injury of Jack Barnett and Jed Phillips, said: “It was a game of two halves due to the wind.

“We created bags of chances in the second half and I thought we could’ve taken all three points, but saying that I was very happy with the performance today.

“The conditions were difficult. It was quite a hard pitch to play on as well.”

Denton had given the hosts a fourth-minute lead from a free, but Spink, who said he would like the manager’s position full-time, was delighted with the Tigers’ response.

“We conceded from an early free kick and the lads held their hands up for the defending of the set piece. After the goal we came out of the traps and I thought we created a lot of chances,” said Spink.

“It was disappointing to have only 14 players to pick from but it was nice to see Jack Barnett back in the side, obviously Jed Phillips as well who pulled up during the warm up last Saturday.

“We had plenty of experience with the lads on the pitch. We could’ve changed it but I was more than happy with the point.”

Spink thanked the Tigers’ passionate fans and said: “There was fantastic support again from our fans.

“They stuck by us and they were still chanting after 95 minutes. They’re a passionate bunch and there’s a lot of pride there.

“They love the club to bits. They just want us to do well and I can’t thank them enough.”
