Thrilling finals bring the school season to a close

The first of two entertaining games played at Harworth FC saw Gamston making it a treble for the season when they added the Champions title to their league and cup successes.

Gamston dominated from the kick-off but could only turn their territorial advantage in the first half into a single goal from Joshua Waby.

A second goal after the interval from Luke Woodward served only to bring a brave comeback from St Swithun’s who reduced the arrears through Hayden Fox.

The game seemed in the balance until the closing minutes when a second Luke Woodward goal finally clinched the title for Gamston and completed a successful first year for new headteacher David Fotheringham.

The large schools Champion of Champions produced a hatful of goals and a very entertaining game between Division One champions, Carr Hill and Division Two challengers, Sir Edmnd Hillary.

Carr Hill, looking for a third successive win, started as clear favourites and took an early lead that soon stretched to a comfortable three goal gap.

Once again though instead of killing off the opposition it produced a strong retort from Sir Edmund Hillary.

Josh Hooton broke through the middle to hit one of the best goals of the game whiled Liam Frost was on hand to head home a second and for a short time Carr Hill reeled under this onslaught.

Being the team that they are, however, they retaliated immediately as they have done all season when they have been under pressure and Alex Wonham (3), Declan Heath, Jay Smith, Macauley Cross and Ben Mills showed that they have goalscorers right through the team and eventually cruised home 7-3 with Cameron Harper adding another consolation goal for Hillary.
