RIGHTLY or wrongly, there is no escaping the fact that Danny Wilson’s appointment as the new Blades boss has angered many supporters of the Red and White Wizards.
A car park protest to ‘welcome’ a new boss must surely be a first in the history of Sheffield United football club.
On the face of it, Wilson’s appointment seems bizarre. What the Blades need more than anything right now is unity and stability. And what the new Blades manager needs is time and patience. Time to rebuild a squad on a shoestring that can have realistic expectations of getting back into the Championship.
This is no mean task, and cannot be done overnight. What is clear though, is that many Unitedites are not prepared to give Danny Wilson any time.
Some would say he is already fighting a losing battle, even though he has been in the job just over a week.
A couple of bad results early on in the season and one can only see the bad feeling towards the former Owls player and manager growing still further.
We could have another Bryan Robson situation on our hands. However, a winning start to the season, and some entertaining football will hopefully be enough to win over even the most stubborn and unreasonable Sheffield United fans.
Only time will tell. Many fans may get their wish and see Wilson fail, or his appointment may turn out to be a brave and inspired masterstroke.
