The darling Budtz to play for Blues again

The 6ft 4ins stopper rejoined the Blues earlier this week, and told the Standard his history with the club made it an easy decision.

“We’ve kept in touch since I played for them and with Barnsey moving, Steve Housham just needed someone to fill the gap and asked if I was available.”

“I didn’t have to think hard about it, I had interest from a few other clubs, but with my full-time position with the Doncaster Rovers Foundation, it just fitted.”

Budtz was in fine form for Worksop Town last season in the Northern Premier League, before a season-ending foot break.

Recalling his 2013/14 experience he said: “It’s just one of those things.”

“We were doing really well, we went unbeaten for 12 or 13 games, we were flying at the time.”

“The foot is perfect now, absolutely fine, I’ve been out running the past month and a half and now I’ll get a full pre-season with Gainsborough.”

Also moving to Trinity from Worksop is central defender Adam Quinn, someone Budtz clicked with at Sandy Lane.

“We had a good partnership, he’s the kind of defender I love to play behind, he’ll put his body on the line and get whatever he can in front of the shot,” said the Dane.

“He’s like me, he wants to give 200 per cent no matter what, he wants to win every game even if he has to be dragged off injured.”

“He’s a great signing for Gainsborough.”

The news of Budtz’ return to the Northolme has been well received by the club’s fans.

The former Doncaster Rovers and Wolves keeper says he’s always had a good relationship with supporters during his long career.

“Whatever club I’ve been at, I’ve always given 200 per cent in training and taken that into every single games,” he said.

“No matter whether you’re bottom of the table or at the top, it shows that I want to win when I cross the white line and fans can see that.”

“Hopefully most of them will be pleased to see back.”

And looking ahead, the man who helped Trinity reach the semi-finals of the FA Trophy in the 2012/13 season, wants more success.

“We’ll get a good pre-season, get everyone gelling and get a bit of confidence and we’ll see,” he said.

“As with any other season, I’m going in with confidence that we’re going to do well .”
