Stalybridge Celtic 1 Gainsborough Trinity 1

A DEFLECTED free kick from Jamie Yates rescued a point for Trinity in Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw away to Stalybridge.

The visitors had to come from behind after Joel Bembo-Leta gave the hosts a lead midway through the second half.

But Trinity picked up their first point of the new season when Yates’ powerfully struck free kick from 30 yards deceived Alex Cairns in the Stalybridge goal, albeit largely due to a deflection off the top of the wall.

And it was Trinity who almost snatched a winner through Darryn Stamp, but his poke towards goal hit the upright before being cleared by a thankful home defence.
