Stafford beating ‘was coming’

Mark Shaw said Wednesday’s opponents Stafford were in the wrong place in the wrong time, as his Tigers cut loose.

Worksop put five past their visitors, with five different goalscorers, and Shaw felt it was only a matter of time before a team was on the wrong end of a beating at Sandy Lane

A delighted boss said: “I feel a bit sorry for Stafford Rangers because this was coming.”

“Someone was going to get a tonking, and they did.”

While Worksop’s attacking threat has been their trademark, with 48 goals scored in just 17 outings, defensive frailties have cost them previously.

But keeping Rangers out for 90 minutes on Wednesday will do them the world of good, according to the mananger.

“The clean sheet is good for confidence, and morale,” he said.

“We controlled the game well, we’ve still got things to work on because we’ve been on an inconsistent run.

“We’ve got to take this into the next game.”

And he was full of praise for the attackers, who all got on the scoresheet.

“I think Conor Higginson is a breath of fresh air when he’s getting forward.”

“Metts, Muldoon and Dents have got one hell of an understanding.”

Although he admitted he was frustrated by Saturday’s FA Cup defeat, feeling the scoreline failed to reflect his side’s performance, Shaw is looking forward to another bite of the national cup cherry when Worksop travel to Ramsbottomv United.

“For us it’s a game we need to go and win. We want a bit of a distraction, we want to go and play against teams in the division above.”

“It’s important we go with a good attitude, stamp our authority on the game early.”
