Squad players shine as Tigers ease through

Tigers rested nine first team players, replacing them with five products of the Under 19 set up and a host of squad players.

And despite Frickley having got the better of Worksop in both the FA Cup and Sheffield Senior Cup this season, the visitors were found wanting this time round at Sandy Lane.

A brace for Jamie Jackson, an Adie Hawes header and a goal for the impressive Matt Telling sealed victory, sending Tigers into the fourth round.

Clark said: “I’m very pleased, we’ve finished the game with five Under 19s and at times we were in absolute control.”

“It’s nice to win at home and it’s good to go into Saturday’s game on the back of a victory.”

The manager was especially pleased for loan striker Jackson, who got on the scoresheet for the first time with Worksop this season.

“I’m delighted for Jamie to hit the net, it’s been a long time since he scored,” he added.

There was a new face between the posts for Worksop, with former Ilkeston keeper Ashley Timms coming into the side.

Clark said: “I wanted to have a look at him, I would like to bring another keeper in.”

“We need one to come in and keep Baz (Paul Bastock) on his toes.”

“Ashley has got out of his contract at Ilkeston, he’s got good size, but I thought he stayed on his line a bit too much tonight.”

It was at the other end of the pitch that most of the early action took place.

Although Tigers didn’t open the scoring until the 19th minute, they were in control of most of the opening exchanges.

Under 19s prospect Adam Powell took an early chance to impress, storming forward from right-back and linking with both strikers before shooting wide.

Jake Scott, playing in his final Tigers game before returning to Barnsley, struck a goalbound effort that was deflected for a corner, but the hosts wasted the opportunity.

Frickley sprang the offside trap with suspicious ease after a quiet opening 10 minutes, but despite running through on Timms, Chris Wood squared the ball to no one in particular.

A smart turn by Jamie Jackson gave him acres of space in the box and his low effort produced a good save from Darren Shirt in the visiting goal.

Jackson then tricked his way past a marker on the right, and poked the ball to Lee Potts at the back post who couldn’t control.

As Worksop began to dominate, Lee Beeson’s bright run and fierce drive forced another good stop from Shirt, and although he couldn’t hold Matt Telling’s left foot effort a minute later, his defence cleared up.

But Tigers got the breakthrough they deserved when Beeson’s corner was met by Hawes who headed in off the far post.

And just two minutes later Telling got the better of former Tiger Terry Barwick in the middle, strode forward and sent Jackson in on goal, the striker clipping the ball through the keeper’s legs with a deft touch.

When the third goal arrived midway through the first half it was very hard to see a way back for Frickley. A lightning quick break by the hosts ended in a Potts shot that was saved, and Telling drilled home the rebound.

Timms was called into action before the break, tipping Danny Stimpson’s header over the bar, but Frickley did have the ball in the net seven minutes into the second half.

Substitute Luke Hinsley turned inside Lee Ridley and found the far corner of the net to make it 3-1.

Worksop made a change of their own on 55 minutes with the introduction of local lad Reece Twell, in place of Modest up front.

His strike partner Jackson then restored the three goal advantage when he picked the ball up on the left, outpaced the defence and cut inside to curl home a lovely right footed shot, giving Shirt no chance.

Two Worksop replacements combined when Ash Jackson found Twell with a ball over the top, but the youngster miscued his half volley.

And then it was the two Jacksons linking, Ash heading to Jamie and he turned to shoot, Shirt saving well.

The final minutes were controlled by Worksop who kept possession well, the youngsters in the side heavily involved, before leaving the field to deserved applause at full-time.
