Stelling - a well-known figure in the football community - has promised to donate £100 to the Tigers' cause.

Worksop announced it was in need of £30K by the end of the month to help pay off immediate debts.

And he brought the club's off-field woes to the attention of his 72.5K followers with a plea on Monday night.

Stelling posted: "Worksop Town, the world's fourth oldest football club, needs £30K to survive. Can anyone help?"

The post received in the region of 800 retweets and 2,000 likes, as well as hundreds of comments.

Worksop warned it could face potential closure due to its outstanding debts.

While it is hoped Peter Whitehead, who owns the lease to the football ground on Sandy Lane, will become chairman if the club reach its £30K aim.

Tigers currently play in the BetVictor NPL South East Division having won their first league title in 46 years last season, securing a Northern Counties East League Premier and Cup double.
