Shock defeat

With their first three league points already in the bag and a place in the cup quarter finals assured, Carr Hill looked to be on their way to repeating their double winning exploits of last season – until St John’s threw the league wide open, defeating the champions 4-3.

Alex Wonham, Tyler Smith and Joseph Gregory hit goals for Carr Hill but whenever they got near to maintaining their winning run, Hayden Cox (2), Bobby George or Finlay Allison were there to claim the points for St John’s .

On a night of surprises Redlands then shocked Sir Edmund Hillary when a Tom McIntosh double had the edge over a single goal from Cameron Harper.

Gateford Park opened their Division Two campaign with a 2-0 success against St Augustine ’s courtesy of goals from Jamie Brown and Adam Ostler.

Blyth made in two wins out of two in Division Five when Joel Knight and Oliver Kay shared the goals, this time in a 4-0 defeat of Clarborough, while Ranskill took their tally to six points when Elliott Crowe (4) and Lewis Clayden hit five against St Swithun’s.

East Markham, 4-0 down in their first match, turned the score round when Harvey Milner, Jacob Screeton and Harry Marchbank were all on target against last season’s double winners Gamston.

The big schools may have the numbers but not all the talent as North Leverton and Sturton-le-Steeple showed when amassing big wins over Cuckney and Ranby, while a Tom Hammerslag hat-trick and goals from Hannah Taylor and Harry Austin got Sutton-cum-Lound off to a winning start against North Wheatley in Division Eight.
