Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal backs appeal to remember Caroline Everest found in river

Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal has given his support to an online campaign to get Owls fans to remember a fan whose body was found in a river this week.

He re-tweeted an online appeal asking fans to stand and applaud during the 18th minute of Sheffield Wednesday’s next home game - against Derby County - on December 6.

Sheffield Wednesday fan Caroline Everest, aged 18, died on a night out in Sheffield city centre last weekend.

She had been to the Corporation nightclub in Milton Street when she vanished.

Her body was found in the Porter Brook, off Summerfield Street at the bottom of Ecclesall Road, two days later.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape after CCTV cameras captured Caroline with a man after she left the club.

Posting on Facebook, Caroline’s friend, Daniel Armitage, said: “Calling all friends and Sheffield Wednesday fans to commemorate the loss of a close friend and Owls supporter, I would like to ask that all fans stand and applaud on the 18th minute of our next home game against Derby County on December 6 to celebrate the life of Caroline Everest, aged 18 - a life taken too soon.”

He added: “I’ve had a few Derby County fans message me saying they would like to pay their respects. Let’s see if we can get Hillsborough rocking for Caroline.

“It’s going to be an incredibly emotional day for me, seeing this kind of tribute to a dear friend will mean so much to so many.”
