Former player David Hirst along with the other riders including Wednesdayite chairman Nigel Short have so far raised more than £3,500 for the North Anston based charity.

David said the group received a warm welcome when they arrived at the hospice on Tuesday.

He added: “The ride has been a great experience, and I’m honoured to have been part of this team of cyclists who have raised so much for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.”

“The hospice provides incredible support to children with a shortened life expectancy in this region, and their families, and on my recent visit to Bluebell Wood I was really moved by the fantastic work they do.”
