Mixed news on the injury front for Owls

Carlos Carvalhal, the Owls head coach, has delivered mixed news on the injury front ahead of tomorrow’s showdown with play-off rivals Cardiff City.

The Portuguese chief has confirmed Michael Turner will be included in their match-day squad, with the defender having shrugged off a knee problem which has sidelined him since October 17.

However, right-back Jack Hunt will miss the trip to the Welsh capital after failing to shake off a calf problem he suffered in the Owls’ Capital One Cup quarter-final defeat at Stoke City last week.

Carvalhal said: “We have recovered Michael Turner. He will be in the 18. He is an important player for us.

“We missed a lot of players and did fantastic in the last game. We are stronger and have more options this week than last week.

“Jack is training normal now so he will be ready very soon. He won’t be in the 18 but will be soon.”

Carvalhal refused to put a timescale on when Tom Lees will be available for selection again. The centre-back is unlikely to play again this year, having torn his hamstring at the Britannia Stadium.

“It depends on the player,” he insisted. “All players are different. Some regenerate much faster than others.”

Forward Marco Matias (hernia) could resume first-team training in the next fortnight, according to Carvalhal.

Three points for Wednesday would move them above Cardiff into sixth place.
