Owls player of the season Keiren Westwood has been included in Republic of Ireland’s provisional 33-man squad for their forthcoming home matches with England and Scotland.
Westwood, capped 17 times by his country, has arguably enjoyed the best year of his career, helping Wednesday equal a club-record 17 clean sheets in a league season.
The 30-year-old’s impressive form prompted him to be named in the Professional Footballers’ Association Championship Team of the Year last month.
Ireland face England in a friendly at Aviva Stadium on Sunday, June 7 before hosting Scotland in a UEFA Euro 2016 Group D qualifier on Saturday June 13.
Martin O’Neill, the Ireland boss, has also included Brentford’s Alan Judge and Aberdeen’s Adam Rooney.
“We have some very big games coming up, which the players will savour to be a part of,” said O’Neill. “I have named a provisional squad today, which I will shorten before we meet up on June 1. I am looking forward to meeting up, and setting to work with the players.”
