Sheffield Wednesday’s injury situation is beginning to improve as they get ready to resume their Championship campaign.

Carlos Carvalhal’s charges had big concerns over captain Glenn Loovens (hamstring) and Jack Hunt (knee) following their last outing with Charlton Athletic.

And the Owls have also been sweating over the fitness of Keiren Westwood after the goalkeeper pulled out of the Republic of Ireland’s squad last week due an ankle problem.

But The Star understands the trio should be available for selection when they welcome Yorkshire neighbours Huddersfield Town to Hillsborough this weekend.

Alex Lopez will be pushing for a start after shrugging off a thigh problem and Modou Sougou (shoulder) is set to resume first-team training today following a lengthy lay-off but Saturday’s derby might come too soon for the speedy winger.

Michael Turner, on loan from Norwich City until the end of the season, is also on the mend, having missed Wednesday’s last six fixtures because of a knee problem.

Striker Lucas Joao, meanwhile, made his first Portugal start in their 2-0 win at Luxembourg last night. The 22-year-old played 79 minutes of the friendly, earning his second international cap in the space of four days.
