Keiren Westwood is predicting big things of summer signing Steven Fletcher, claiming the striker is capable of scoring 20 goals this season.
Goalkeeper Westwood is a bid admirer of Fletcher’s qualities, having played alongside the Scotland international at Sunderland.
Westwood told The Star: “Fletch is a great lad, a fantastic finisher and exactly what we needed. He’s very strong and good in air.
“Fletch is a great signing for our club. He can get 20 goals. We’ve got a quality midfield so he will get the service here.”
Fletcher has looked sharp in pre-season, finding the back of the net in their warm-up matches against CD Nacional and Portimonense.
The former Sunderland and Wolves man is poised to make his Owls debut in Sunday’s eagerly-anticipated showdown with Aston Villa, who have had a £12m bid accepted for Fulham striker Ross McCormack.
Westwood said: “Fletch is a fantastic character, a great footballer and will fit right into our team.”
Sam Hutchinson is expected to be available for selection, having been rested in their last friendly versus Port Vale. The 27-year-old, who has been deployed at centre-half throughout their pre-season programme, was forced off against Nacional after sustaining a minor injury.
Boss Carlos Carvalhal said: “We didn’t want to take any risks with Sam. We just protected him.”
Jack Hunt and Marco Matias may also return to action after sitting out the Valiants warm-up match.
Portugal international Lucas Joao could be involved as long as he recovers from a back problem.
