Owls are sweating over the fitness of Daniel Pudil and Fernando Forestieri ahead of Saturday’s Hillsborough meeting with third-from-bottom Preston North End.
The duo, brought in from Watford before the transfer window shut last month, are still receiving treatment for hamstring problems.
Left-back Pudil was taken off in the first half of Saturday’s win over Brentford while striker Forestieri has sat-out the last two fixtures, although he was cup-tied for the trip to Newcastle United.
“We pulled Daniel off the pitch quickly so hopefully it will not be important,” said head coach Carlos Carvalhal. “It is a small problem.
“Just like Fernando [Forestieri], Michael [Turner] and Barry [Bannan], Daniel didn’t play a match for eight weeks before joining us.”
Teenage starlet Joe Wildsmith, meanwhile, has been included in the forthcoming England Under-20 Mercedes-Benz Elite Cup in Germany. The friendly tournament, featuring the Netherlands, Turkey and Germany, is set to begin next week.
The lifelong Wednesdayite, who penned a contract extension in August, has caught the eye in his five Owls appearances this season, recording clean sheets at Bolton Wanderers and Newcastle.
